I'm considering improving oTree's integration with other platforms, and would like to know where the most demand is. At your departments, what other tools and services are in the workflow of a complete experiment? In other words, to recruit, pay, monitor, analyze, etc... there are probably things that could be automated. I'd like to know how usage has shifted in recent times. Prolific, Sona, CloudResearch, MTurk, Venmo, PayPal, etc?

Hi Chris, Here’s what we use in our department: - Recruitment & Pool Management: We use ORSEE (self-hosted) to manage our in-lab participant pool. Previously we used hroot. For online studies, we also use Prolific and MTurk. - Payments: Due to GDPR regulations in Germany, we pay via bank transfer. Banking details are collected through a self-hosted LimeSurvey form after the experiment, completely separate from experimental data. - Hosting: We used Heroku in the past but have mostly switched to self-hosted university servers due to data privacy requirements. Deployment is automated using bash scripts and Git for quick setup and updates. - Monitoring: We use the oTree admin panel and sometimes inspect data via exports or direct PostgreSQL access. - Analysis: Mainly done in Stata, Python, and R. Hope that helps — thanks!
